How I Work
Theoretical Background

My foundational training is as an Integrative Counsellor, encompassing the principal models of counselling and psychotherapy – Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic. Working integratively is at the heart of my approach, allowing me to tailor support that places the individual front and centre in the therapeutic journey.

Over the years, I have found myself most deeply influenced by humanistic traditions, which align closely with both my values and personality. Person-centred approaches, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis (TA), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness techniques, and Eastern philosophy each contribute unique insights and tools that enrich my practice. I consciously weave elements from these modalities into my work, fostering a compassionate, holistic environment for personal growth and self-discovery.

Timing

My primary role involves working within a six-session framework at a university, where I frequently observe significant developments over a concise timeframe.

I aim to incorporate the principles of brief work into my private practice, while also having the flexibility to reassess and extend the work as necessary. This approach is intended to effectively balance client needs with cost efficiency.
Mindfulness

I can help you establish a mindfulness meditation practice through Mindfulness Coaching. This can significantly improve resilience and create a more manageable relationship to an overactive mind.

I especially enjoy facilitating a better experience for those who have been put off meditation by feeling pressure 'to empty the mind'.

And when formal meditation really isn't someone's cup of tea, I find some of the key principles (such as non-judgmental thought labelling) can still be put into practice to great effect in day-to-day life.
